Welcome Back Emily

Hey Kaki!

How was practice this weekend?

The DC Open was great. All the amazing players were there- Melinda who used to be #1 in the US before her injury, unbelievable Piotr Mazur from Alaska who does moves I never thought existed in badminton, and even the peruvian junior national team! I was seeded #1 in the C bracket in doubles which was cool.  My partner and I got a bye in the first round and then lost in three really close games in our first match. Then we competed in the D bracket and won that.

Sage:Badminton Shoes

Just to add to Kaki’s point about badminton shoes. I think it is very important to have the right shoes for this sport.

Most of you probably notice I wear a brace on my right knee. That injury was caused by me playing a tournament in running sneakers because I forgot to bring my badminton shoes. Regular running sneakers have very soft and thick sole and way too much bounce, and it puts a lot of pressure on your leading knee when you try to stop quickly. The thick and bouncy sole also makes it difficult to stabilize the ankles during sudden directional changes and you can twist them easily.

Yonex shoes are definitely the top choice, but you can also use volleyball shoes if you can find them on sale. Asics makes great volleyball shoes and you can order them with deep discount at Foot Lockers from time to time. The most basic features are light shoe with thin and solid cushion.

Get the right equipment and don’t take chances!!!

We all love badminton

I finished my finalsssssss eventually. And yesterday was the NYC Badminton Club 10 Year's Anniversary Tournament, I didn't play but I went to cheer Sage and Syl. I had a lot of fun even just by watching. Not to say I met some old friends there. Here are some pictures I took.

From 2003 President

NYU Badminton Club already treated me nicely for 3 years. During this short peroid of time, badminton grows to become a part of me. Not only does it help me relief huge amount of tensions from school, it also brings me a chance to meet some really cool people. For me, it is an experience of a lifetime. There is nothing in this world that can be better than meeting with a group of friends who share the same interest. Badminton can bring together a group of strangers and made them friends. It doesn't matter who you are, students (both undergraduate or graduate) or faculty members. NYU Badminton club binds you all to the same court by your interest in playing this great sport.
